BUILDING A COMMUNITY AROUND YOUTH VOICES

We believe that everyone has the potential to make a difference if they’re given the right tools, support, and a safe space to speak.

We started YVA because we noticed something: there are a lot of young people who feel like they don’t quite fit in anywhere. Maybe they’re not the loudest in class or the most active in their community, but they’ve got ideas they just don’t always know how to share them. YVA was created to give these young people a chance to find their voice and see that they do have something valuable to say.

Mission & Vision

FOR YOUth

Our mission is to help young people who feel unsure or unheard find the confidence to speak up about what matters to them.

Mission & Vision

FOR ORGANISATIONS

We help organisations tap into the fresh perspectives of young people who might not usually have the spotlight but who have so much to offer.

WHAT WE DO

Youth Voices Action is dedicated to empowering young people in the Bay of Plenty to shape their futures and strengthen their communities. We provide platforms for rangatahi/young people (aged 13-24) to express themselves, develop skills, and connect with others. Our programmes focus on Mental Health and Wellbeing,  Leadership Development, Education, and Social Media Advocacy, supporting young people to become confident, informed, and engaged.

HOW WE DO IT

We create impactful, ongoing programmes that empower young people to actively participate in shaping their futures. Our approach prioritises collaboration and continued support to help young people find their voice, connect with others, and grow as individuals. We believe that consistent engagement and accessible resources are key to long-term positive outcomes for young people.

YVA is built on a foundation of strong partnerships, with schools, government agencies, and community organisations. By bringing these stakeholders together, we’re able to reach young people from diverse backgrounds and create inclusive, welcoming spaces that create growth and understanding.

We also prioritise data and insights with the Youth Voice Research Project, working with research institutions to identify the needs and priorities of young people. We use these findings to advocate for youth-centered policies and practices, making sure the voices of our youth continue to drive real change.

Our goal is to build a stronger community where every young person in Aotearoa has the opportunity to thrive, lead, and make a difference.
